The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced the 2026 Met Gala theme as "Superfuture: Fashion and Technology," exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, wearable technology, and haute couture. The May 5 event promises to be the most technologically ambitious gala in history.

Several designers have confirmed they will present AI-collaboratively-designed garments, where human couturiers work alongside AI systems to create pieces that would be impossible through either approach alone. Iris van Herpen is expected to debut a 3D-printed gown with embedded LED elements.

The exhibition accompanying the gala will trace the history of technology in fashion from the invention of the sewing machine to today's AI-generated textile designs. Interactive installations will allow visitors to see themselves in AI-styled outfits in real-time.

Co-chairs for the 2026 gala include Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Naomi Osaka, and tech entrepreneur Jensen Huang — the first time a technology industry leader has co-hosted the event. Anna Wintour remains the event's longtime overseer.

Ticket prices for the exclusive event are reportedly $75,000 per person, with tables starting at $350,000. The gala raises funds for the Met's Costume Institute, which received $26 million from last year's event.
