Marvel Studios made the biggest splash at CinemaCon 2026 on Tuesday when president Kevin Feige revealed that Oscar winner Cate Blanchett will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a completely new role for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Blanchett previously appeared as Hela in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok.
Feige also confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will indeed appear in the film as the villainous Doctor Doom, a role first announced in 2024. A brief teaser shown exclusively to the CinemaCon audience reportedly drew a standing ovation, with attendees describing it as the most ambitious Marvel project since Endgame.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release in May 2027, with the Russo Brothers returning to direct. The film will reportedly bring together characters from across the multiverse in a storyline that Feige described as the culmination of the Multiverse Saga.
