Marvel Studios has unveiled its Phase 7 slate at a special fan event, announcing eight new projects including "Avengers: Secret Wars" scheduled for May 2028. The lineup represents a creative reset for the franchise following the mixed reception of recent phases.
The centerpiece announcement is the return of Robert Downey Jr. in a new role — not as Tony Stark but as Doctor Doom, the multiverse villain driving the overarching "Multiverse Saga" narrative. The casting has generated massive online debate and excitement.
Other announced projects include standalone films for the Fantastic Four sequel, a Wolverine film within the MCU, and a Nova origin story. Disney+ series include "Young Avengers," "Midnight Sons," and a "Spider-Man: Freshman Year" animated series.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige acknowledged that recent MCU fatigue has been a learning experience, promising that Phase 7 will feature fewer total projects with higher individual quality. "We heard the fans. Less is more, but what we deliver will be spectacular."
